At the center of the mesmerizing rolling hills, lived a boy named Shepherd. His existence was untarnished, simple yet virtuous. His only responsibility was to look after his flock of rams.

Their gentle baas and the murmuring of the breezes through the single tree on the peak were his constant companions. Day after day, guarding his responsibilities imbued in him a notion of calm satisfaction.

But, there were occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would yearn for fellowship. On one such day out of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy devised a naughty plan.

Tales of wolves hunting on sheep had been heard times and again in the village. So, the boy chose to exploit this fear and played a joke on the townsfolk.

One morning he dashed into the village shouting here “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The scared villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but found no wolf.

The boy giggled at the confusion on their faces. This trick persisted for a couple of more days. Yet, one morning, a real wolf actually attack the flock. The shepherd boy dashed for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his sheep. Devastated, he returned to the town only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the consequences of dishonesty.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once lost, is tough to earn back. It's a story as appropriate today as it was then.
